Assessment

Pre-school and Kindergarten:

Identification of abilities/strengths/weaknesses related specifically to reading and spelling readiness.

By the end of kindergarten attainment of basic foundational skills

Grades One through 12:

Identification of abilities/strengths/weaknesses related specifically to reading/spelling/writing skill mastery.

Specific Areas Tested:

A variety of standardized tests are used. Some abilities/skills that may be tested include:

 

  • Phonemic awareness

  • Phonological memory

  • Phonetic knowledge

  • Phonetic decoding efficiency

  • Sight word efficiency

  • Naming speed

  • Reading comprehension

  • Spelling

  • Writing

    • Vocabulary

    • Punctuation

    • Sentences

    • Grammar

    • Composition

 

Please note: Nancy Young is a special educator, certified to give Level B tests. The tests she uses pertain specifically to reading/writing skills. She is not a psychologist.
